A tower clock is sometimes also referred to as a turret clock. However, the turret is the mechanism inside the tower which marks the hour and sometimes half hour by ringing large bells or chimes. Tower clocks can play tunes or simple musical phases. The warm sounds bring back memories from the celebration of our wedding the start or end of the day.
The clock tower is a specific tower built with one, two, or four clock faces. The Towers can be part of a church, college campuses, town square, or freestanding. It was important that these clocks were reliable, accurate, easily maintained, and many had to work in adverse climates. Bells have been part of churches and cathedrals for hundreds of years. Two of the most popular Tower clocks were made for Wells and Salisbury Cathedrals in England.
